The scene we discuss is a terrible event that physically made me cringe when I read it, and while I understood what Grossman was doing, I really wish there had been another way to advance the narrative. Magicians Land is the conclusion to Quentin Coldwater’s story, and it starts where The Magician King, the second book in the series, left off. I spent a lot of time defending this certain rape scene as a plot device and now that I have had more time to think about it I don't feel the same way anymore. As I was editing this podcast I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable with the way I was going about the discussion with Sophie. Quentin Coldwater, Grossmans Orpheus and his Abraham, his Yahweh and his Puck, enchants as few other magicians can, or dare.
